Permafrost in the Swiss Alps after Summer 2022

Check out our poster from the Swiss Geoscience Meeting 2022 presenting the first results!

The ground temperatures in the uppermost meters of the permafrost are above average and new records of active layer thickness were measured at many sites. Correspondingly, the permafrost resistivity decreased in summer 2022. However, further down at ca. 10 m depth, the permafrost conditions are still influenced by the colder year 2021 and ground temperatures decreased compared to the previous years. Correspondingly, rock glacier velocity decreased in 2022.
